Price hike aims to support network sustainability and future investment amid rising demand
Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Angus will face higher charging costs from April 1, 2025, as the council increases tariffs across all publicly owned charge points.
Angus Council approved the 5p-per-kWh price rise at its meeting on February 27, following a review influenced by the Scottish Futures Trust Insights Report on EV charging tariffs. From April, the cost to charge at any slow, fast, or rapid council-maintained station will rise to 60p per kilowatt hour.
The council said the increase is necessary to ensure the EV charging network remains financially viable and able to support growing demand. The new rate is also in line with private sector charging prices within the region.
In addition to the tariff change, a £10 overstay fee will continue to be enforced to promote fair usage and charger availability. Overstay penalties will apply after:
-
8 hours on 7kW slow chargers
-
5 hours on 22kW fast chargers
-
1 hour on 50kW rapid chargers
The council has installed updated signage at every public charging station in Angus to alert users of the upcoming price changes. Full details, including charger locations and usage guidance, are available on the ChargePlace Scotland website.
Officials said the revised charges will help fund essential maintenance and future upgrades as the region expands its EV infrastructure.
