The Royal Canadian Air Force will bring its CC-130J Hercules to the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight next month, with a special flypast planned for Saturday 6 September.

The four-engine transport aircraft is no stranger to Ayrshire skies, with a detachment of Hercules based at Prestwick Airport. The plane is capable of carrying around 80 passengers, flying more than 4,000 miles without refuelling, and operating from short or unpaved runways in severe weather.

Its versatility makes it a workhorse for search and rescue, cargo transport, and military operations. The Prestwick-based detachment is a regular presence in the region, and its appearance at the air show offers the public a rare chance to see the aircraft in display conditions.

The International Ayr Show will take place along Ayr’s shorefront on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 September, with aerial displays scheduled on both days. The RCAF flypast adds to a programme that is expected to draw thousands of spectators to the seaside town.
