New feature builds on success of ‘Report It!’ system, making it easier for residents to flag local concerns
EAST AYRSHIRE — Reporting community issues like graffiti, littering or damaged playpark equipment just got easier in East Ayrshire, with the rollout of QR codes on public bins to streamline access to the council’s ‘Report It!’ system.
The move follows the successful launch of the Report It! platform last summer by the Greener Communities team. The online tool, accessible via the Council’s website, has already proven popular among residents for reporting a range of public concerns—from dog fouling to cemetery maintenance.
Now, QR codes placed on bins across the region will allow residents to report issues directly from their smartphones. By scanning a code, users are taken to the online reporting form where they can upload a photo, select the type of issue, and provide details and a location.
Reports are then processed by Greener Communities and assigned to the appropriate team. In cases of highly offensive graffiti, the council aims to respond within two working days, though removal is limited to publicly owned buildings.
Councillor Jim McMahon, Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, said the QR code rollout is part of the council’s commitment to making services more accessible. “Since launching last summer, Report It! has proved very popular and easy to use for residents,” he said. “There are 15 different categories that you can report, and by adding a photo it makes the whole process straightforward and more efficient.”
By embedding QR codes into everyday infrastructure, East Ayrshire Council aims to encourage more people to report problems quickly and conveniently, further supporting cleaner, safer communities.
