ABERDEENSHIRE — Dozens of taxis and private hire cars were stopped and inspected in a joint operation by Aberdeenshire Council Licensing Standards and Police Scotland aimed at ensuring passenger safety.

The checks, conducted recently at locations including Inverurie, Kintore and Stonehaven, focused on roadworthiness, licensing compliance and adherence to traffic laws. Officers said the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to maintain high safety standards in the local taxi industry.

Teams reviewed driver credentials, licensing conditions and vehicle safety during the operation. While no serious offences were found, officials confirmed that several minor contraventions were dealt with at the time.

Keith Simpson, Aberdeenshire Council’s senior licensing standards officer, said the inspections were an important safeguard for passengers. “This initiative supports our shared commitment to keeping passengers safe and maintaining high standards in the local taxi industry,” he said.

Roads Policing Officer Daniel Baird said the checks help identify issues before they pose risks. “Public safety is our top priority and these important checks help us identify and address any issues before they pose a risk to passengers or other road users,” he said.

Police Scotland and Aberdeenshire Council confirmed further operations are planned to support safe and professional taxi services across the region.
