East Renfrewshire Council has awarded a works contract covering four active-travel and road-safety schemes in Clarkston, with construction scheduled to run into March 2027.
The contract, recorded on Public Contracts Scotland as “MC 21 – 4 Schemes in Clarkston”, was awarded on 3 September. Work was scheduled to begin on 7 September and conclude by 7 March 2027.
The commission sits under the council’s Footways and Footpaths Framework and is described as a programme of active-travel and road-safety improvements. Unlike a general transport strategy, the procurement record marks the point at which the programme moves into an actual works contract with a defined delivery period.
Small schemes of this kind are easily lost inside wider capital programmes despite their direct effect on individual streets. Alterations to crossings, pavements, junctions and walking or cycling routes can affect everyday journeys to schools, shops, public transport and local services long after the contract notice disappears from view.
The award is also a useful point from which to track delivery. The four schemes can now be followed against the March completion date, including the eventual scope of construction, disruption during works and whether the finished layouts differ materially from those initially proposed.
