Dumfries and Galloway Council spent £84.6 million with businesses based inside the region during 2025/26, according to its latest procurement report.
The council managed approximately £321.7 million of procurement expenditure during the year and dealt with more than 3,000 suppliers. About £208.8 million was spent with suppliers located somewhere in Scotland, including those within Dumfries and Galloway.
The figures provide a useful measure of how much of a large public purchasing budget remains in the local economy. Local expenditure represented a little more than a quarter of the procurement total, although simple geographical comparisons do not account for contracts that cannot readily be supplied by businesses based within the region.
The report also recorded 335 community benefits generated through council contracts. These included employment and apprenticeship opportunities, work experience, training, assistance for community organisations and environmental projects.
Contract compliance for expenditure above £20,000 reached 94.63 per cent, the council said, its highest recorded level.
The next layer of the figures lies below the headline total. Procurement covers everything from construction and social care to vehicles, professional services and supplies. Following the annual numbers by contract category would show where Dumfries and Galloway businesses secure public work successfully and where major spending continues to leave the region.
